Car & Driver's latest report adds a new twist to the ongoing saga of the rumored Corvette SUV. Previously, in November, the magazine claimed that Corvette would launch as a brand in 2025, introducing a four-door sedan and an SUV, both as all-electric Ultium-based vehicles. However, new rumors suggest that internal combustion engines (ICE) will power the SUV, using the Alpha Platform, which underpins GM's performance giants like the Cadillac CT4, CT5, and Chevrolet Camaro. The Alpha Platform, designed for rear-wheel-drive focused, driver-centric vehicles, has been around for 11 years, but its suitability remains as the CT4 Blackwing and CT5 Blackwing recently made Car & Driver's 10 Best list.

Interestingly, the magazine also reports that the SUV could be available in two sizes, with a speculated engine lineup of three options in four different outputs, targeting competitors like Porsche's Macan and Cayenne SUVs. The rumored engine range would include:

  • Turbocharged four-cylinder, 300 horsepower
  • Twin-turbo V6, 400 horsepower
  • 6.2-liter V8, 500 horsepower
  • Supercharged 6.2L V8, 682 horsepower
The smaller SUV would start with the four-cylinder engine, priced around $60,000, with the option to upgrade to the twin-turbo V6. It's intriguing to entertain the possibility of a family-friendly, four-cylinder Corvette SUV, even if it's only a rumor for now.
